Retailers call for focus on entire supply chain

According to The Australian Financial Review (AFR), CEOs from Origin, EnergyAustralia and AGL told Energy Minister Angus Taylor the government needed to focus on the whole electricity supply chain to achieve lower prices at a meeting yesterday.

The leaders pointed out the retail component of a power bill is minor and called for action on network charges and green subsidies, which they believe are more to blame for high prices, along with rising wholesale tariffs.

The comments came as the heads of energy networks defended their organisations’ records on cost reduction.

Speaking exclusively to the AFR, TransGrid’s Paul Italiano, Ausgrid’s Richard Gross and Endeavour Energy’s Tony Narvaez said analysis of the three electricity retailers, which showed regulated network costs had fallen 15–17 per cent, “should be reflected in lower household bills”.
