NSW opposition’s support for moratorium alarming news for state’s gas users: APPEA

NSW Labor Leader Luke Foley has called for all current CSG exploration licences to be suspended, along with no new exploration or production licences until a “tight regulatory framework based on independent science can be established”.

Mr Foley helped draft NSW Labor’s policy for a state-wide moratorium on CSG until all 16 of Chief Scientist Mary O’Kane’s recommendations are addressed and implemented.

Meanwhile, APPEA highlighted the looming energy security problem the state currently faces as it imports around 95 per cent of its gas from other states in its criticism of Labor’s “politicisation of natural gas”, stating that NSW has a CSG industry that has delivered a cleaner energy to users for more than a decade.
