Mid-West Clean Energy Project

Former Climate Change Authority boss Anthea Harris has been appointed chief executive of the Energy Security Board, and Buru Energy is on the lookout for a chief executive to strengthen its management team following the successful gas flow test at the Rafael well. Sparc Technologies has also appointed energy technologies expert Stephanie Moroz as its non-executive director.

The following appointments have been made.

Anthea Harris, chief executive, Energy Security Board: The Energy Security Board (ESB) has appointed former Climate Change Authority boss Anthea Harris as its chief executive officer.

With a long history within Australian climate and energy policy, Harris has held senior positions within the former federal department of climate change and energy efficiency.

Harris more recently served as a deputy secretary at the Victorian department of environment, land, water and planning, leading the department’s energy group.

The ESB been faced with the task of redesigning Australia’s National Electricity Market – the most significant overhaul since its conception, made necessary by the rapid acceleration in the switch to renewable energy.

Chair of the ESB Anna Collyer welcomed Harris’ appointment as ‘timely’ as the organisation faces such a great challenge.

To be appointed, chief executive, Buru Energy: Following the successful gas flow test at the Rafael well in the Canning Basin, the Buru Board has taken the opportunity to commence a process to strengthen its management team with the appointment of a chief executive officer.

The team is currently being led by executive chairman Eric Streitberg, who said the appointment will help to ensure the company has appropriate management depth to move quickly to progress the appraisal and potential development of the gas discovery.

The appointment will also help to ensure that there is a strong focus on Buru’s energy transition activities as well as its core oil and gas business.

Streitberg and the board are currently assisting Gerard Daniels in the recruitment process.

Streitberg will remain in an executive role to complete a comprehensive onboarding of the new appointment and to ensure an orderly transition of day-to-day operational management of Buru.

“It is very much an appropriate time to ad depth and capability to our management team through the appointment of a CEO so I can focus my energy on the longer term strategic direction of the company,” said Streitberg.

Sparc Technologies executive chairman Stephen Hunt said Moroz’s appointment would add to the company’s skillset and experience within the energy space, particularly with regard to green hydrogen.

“These attributes will enhance our strategic capabilities and widen our network in this field, which will complement the work we are undertaking with the photocatalytic green hydrogen project with Fortescue Future Industries and the University of Adelaide,” said Hunt.

“Stephanie’s expertise in material sciences will also strengthen Sparc’s capabilities with developing and commercialising graphene materials and particularly for applications in the energy sector.”
