Manufacturer calls to lift NSW CSG ban

Weston Aluminium Managing Director Garbis Simonian told ABC News that rising gas prices have eroded the viability of the manufacturing business, with more pressure expected unless gas supplies are increased in the state.

“You know the solution is for the government to start allowing CSG development in selected areas,” Mr Simonian told ABC News.

“New South Wales is a large state and there are a lot of areas that aren’t critical for agriculture, like industrial areas, power station buffer zones.

“There are a lot of areas where they can explore for gas with minimal impact.”

The NSW Government currently has in place a moratorium on new CSG exploration in the state.
