JV moves to Dorado-3

Located off the northwest shelf of Western Australia in the Bedout Basin, the Dorado-3 well will be the next step in the assessment of the Dorado resource that made headlines last year after it was described as “staggering” upon discovery.

Following the drilling of Dorado-1 in 2018, the Santos and Carnarvon joint venture (JV) continued its success with Dorado-2, which not only confirmed the presence of a significant hydrocarbon resource but indicated the discovery was larger than initially anticipated.

While the Roc South-1 well nearby turned out to be a bust, Dorado-3 is located approximately 900 m northwest of Dorado-1 and has been designed to enhance the JV’s confidence in the subsurface characteristics, as well as confirm reservoir productivity.

The well is planned to conduct up to three flow tests targeting the Caley, Baxter and Milne reservoirs, which were found in the initial discovery, as well as acquire approximately 380 m of full-core bore.

The Noble Tom Prosser drilling rig will be moved to the well site this coming weekend and drilling operations are expected to run for approximately one month.

The wells are all located within the WA-437-P offshore permit area.

Carnarvon possesses a 20 per cent interest in the project, while operator Santos holds the remaining 80 per cent after its 2018 purchase of Quadrant Energy.
