Gas-fired power to boom on back of carbon price: Swan

The Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan released a snapshot of the modelling completed for the multi-party climate policy committee over the weekend, saying that a price on carbon would drive innovation to find cleaner ways of producing power, goods and services, and “tilt the balance” towards investment in low-emission producing forms of power generation, including gas-fired power.

The Treasurer is expected to release more details about Treasury’s modelling of the carbon price in his National Press Club address, which he will deliver tomorrow on the Government’s proposed transition to a low-carbon economy.
